Background
Designing the branding and on-screen graphics for Esteddfod, the first-ever Welsh-language esports tournament, was an exciting yet intricate challenge. With a live audience show and four independent streams—managed by the expert team at Streams+—the pressure was on to deliver a seamless, dynamic experience across all platforms.
The release of Unreal Engine 5.4 (Project Avalanche) came at the perfect moment, providing an opportunity to push the limits of visual performance and design. Working within a tight timeline, we leveraged this cutting-edge technology to create an innovative, high-energy experience that could thrive in the fast-paced, real-time environment of esports.
Strategy
For the Esteddfod project, our strategy focused on creating a cohesive visual identity and content that worked across all platforms – from marketing and social media to the live broadcast. We developed versatile assets that maintained brand consistency while optimising for each medium. This approach ensured a captivating experience for both in-person attendees and broadcast viewers, effectively extending the Esteddfod’s reach and impact.
Our collaboration with Streams+ & M-SParc on the Esteddfod project yielded groundbreaking results.
Leveraging Unreal Engine 5.4 and other cutting-edge technologies, we created a captivating digital experience that not only honoured the Eisteddfod’s cultural heritage but also pushed it into new territory. A highlight of this modernisation was the introduction of the first-ever esports tournament conducted entirely in the Welsh language, marking a significant milestone in the event’s history. Our comprehensive strategy seamlessly blended virtual and physical elements, ensuring a cohesive brand presence across marketing materials, social media, and broadcast graphics. The immersive virtual environments and dynamic motion graphics we crafted significantly enhanced the experience for both in-person attendees and digital viewers. This innovative approach expanded the Esteddfod’s reach, attracting a younger, more diverse audience while maintaining its cultural significance. By successfully merging tradition with technology, we helped position the Esteddfod as a forward-thinking celebration of Welsh culture, setting a new standard for cultural events in the digital era.
